Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes to miss news conference amid growing speculation

DEREK MCINNES is set to miss Aberdeen's press conference today - with Paul Sheerin stepping in for the Rangers-bound boss.

The presser comes after McInnes spent last night locked in talks with Dons chairman Stewart Milne over his future.

Rangers made an approach to Aberdeen on Tuesday evening asking to speak to McInnes about their vacant managerial position but were refused permission by the Pittodrie club.

McInnes and assistant Tony Docherty missed the Dons' training sessions this morning and yesterday as a move to Rangers looks increasingly likely.

The request to speak to McInnes came after a week in which Aberdeen lost twice to Rangers in back-to-back Premiership fixtures with the Ibrox side under the temporary stewardship of under-20s coach Graeme Murty.

Temperatures in Raleigh from Wednesday evening into Thursday will be highs in the 40s and lows in the 30s. Temperatures will drop from the low 60s early in the day to the low and mid 50s in the afternoon.

It now appears that the ball is in McInnes' court, with reports suggesting he may have to consider resigning from his Pittodrie post in order to force through a move to his boyhood heroes, who he served as a player between 1995 and 2000.

But Rangers insiders insist the two clubs have yet to even discuss compensation figures.

Though they have been below par in recent years, Rangers are traditionally one of the biggest clubs in Scottish football and this will make the prospect of managing them something attractive for Mclnnes.

"The outcome of Derek's meeting with the chairman up there will decide the next move".
