The Minnesota Board of Animal Health said Wednesday it confirmed the results with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

An initial review shows the most recent movement occurred in April 2016 when three deer were transported out of the herd, which now stands at seven adult white-tailed deer. The Board says this is a registered herd with 10 years of records and what it calls a "good history" of CWD surveillance. This includes, but is not limited to, white-tailed deer, mule deer, elk, moose, and caribou. It is cause by an abnormally shaped protein - a prion - which can damage brain and nerve tissue. Consuming infected meat is not advised.
