States have tried to force Uber's hand on the issue to no avail.
The proposed class-action also lists a number of stories about other women accosted by Uber drivers, some of whom shared these details via Twitter under the hashtag #metoo, which is created to allow women to voice their stories of sexual assault and harassment.
Two women are suing Uber for allegedly misrepresenting the safety of its platform.
"Uber received this complaint today and we are in the process of reviewing it".
"Uber has done everything possible to continue using low-priced, woefully inadequate background checks on drivers and has failed to monitor drivers for any violent or inappropriate conduct after they are hired", the legal complaint reads, according to Recode. Nothing meaningful has been done to make rides safer for passengers - especially women.
The lawsuit was filed by two anonymous women, including a Florida woman who police say was raped by an Uber driver after he took her home.

In addition to seeking unspecified punitive damages, the plaintiffs are hoping to force Uber to change the way it conducts background checks. According to the suit, the company through which Uber runs background checks is more cursory and only goes back seven years into an applicants history. The company says that is as far back as the law allows it to go, but lawyers for the plaintiffs say that's because the system they use primarily sifts through credit reporting systems. Alternate background checks, like fingerprint background checks, would go back further, the complaint alleges. The company was banned in New Delhi as a result of an alleged rape in that Indian city, and MA denied licenses to more than 8.000 Uber (and Lyft) drivers based on more stringent guidelines in the state.
Uber has been criticized for poorly handling sexual assault and harassment allegations - both within its corporate departments and by drivers - several times in the past years. In fact, the state found that 51 of those drivers who were rejected were sex offenders and 352 of them had been accused of incidents related to "sex, abuse and exploitation".
"On notice of the magnitude of the number of passengers who have experienced sexual harassment and gender-based violence, Uber should have made drastic changes to the way that it screens and monitors drivers, as well as advancing safety measures on its app and in vehicles, and disclosed the truth to consumers about its insurance coverage during rides", the lawsuit says.
