A task team of seven members - four from the national executive committee (NEC) and three "technical" staffers - were assigned to the province to deal with the appeal.
Mantashe said he's disappointed in those that pushed rumours that his possible removal was discussed at the ANC special NEC meeting at the weekend.
At the meeting, the NEC resolved to uphold the decision of the PEC.
