Former Italy star Alessandro Del Piero wants Antonio Conte to return as head coach after "a great period" with Chelsea.

According to The Mirror, Conte will be sent an SOS call to get his national side back on track, a little over a year after leaving the job to take charge at Chelsea.

There have been rumours of discontent behind the scenes at Chelsea with suggestions that he could leave the club at the end of the season but Moggi stressed that Conte is not going to return to the Italy job.

We had some problems and he fixed it, then won the title.

Giampiero Ventura insists he had some of the best results of any Italy coach despite his team's World Cup play-off failure.

Qatar emir says his country 'thousand times better off' without Gulf allies
The emir also said the blockading countries had underestimated the strength of Qatar's people living under the blockade. Sheikh Tamim says "their goal was not to reach a solution or settlement".

After somewhat of a struggle this season for Chelsea, Conte has come under pressure despite winning the league last campaign, the speculation around his future has come into scrutiny as well due to Italy under-performing in the World Cup qualifiers and many have tipped Conte to replace Gian Piero Ventura.

Ventura denied that he had offered to resign in the aftermath of their 1-0 defeat to Sweden, but the two-legged defeat was not good enough for the IFF and it means they will be absent from their first World Cup finals in 60 years next summer.

And Del Piero has given his support to the 69-year-old, lauding the attacking options at his disposal for the Sweden clash.

"[Ciro] Immobile seems to be scoring every week", he said. He has [Lorenzo] Insigne and [Antonio] Candreva on the right side so I don't think we have a problem with the options in attack.
