Fox's Shep Smith Debunks Right Wing's Pet 'Uranium One' Scandal

Shepard Smith tackles the Uranium One scandal – and makes a surprising conclusion

That committee, known as CFIUS, is made up of officials from nine federal agencies, including the State Department, which Clinton ran at the time.

The show then proceeded to play Smith's lengthy analysis, which he said debunked claims that Clinton had approved the deal which gave a Russian company control of large US uranium stockpiles in exchange for donations to the Clinton Foundation - a quid pro quo.

They see her alleged role as a scandal, particularly amid charges the Trump campaign colluded with Russian Federation in the 2016 presidential election. "She did not", Smith concluded.

Rosatom acquired a majority stake in Uranium One in 2010 and bought the remainder of the company in 2013.

The sale of Uranium One, a Canadian firm with rights to mine USA uranium, to a Russian company is in the news again with the Department of Justice signaling it could appoint a special counsel to look into the matter.

Moreover, since Russian Federation doesn't have the legal right to export uranium from the United States, analysts have said its main goal in acquiring the Canadian firm was likely to gain access to its uranium assets in Kazakhstan. "The next year, candidate Donald TrumpDonald John TrumpDems win from coast to coast Falwell after Gillespie loss: "'DC should annex" Northern Virginia Dems see gains in Virginia's House of Delegates MORE cited the accusation as an example of Clinton corruption".

Smith then laid out the approval process for the sale, which involves a nine-person committee made up of the heads of federal agencies, and noted that no one person could approve or veto the deal - only former President Obama could do either. Giustra has said he sold his stake in the deal in 2007, while Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were vying for the Democratic presidential nomination. "That is three years before the uranium/Russia deal and a year and a half before Hillary Clinton became secretary of state". Some Republicans have charged that Clinton approved the deal after the foundation received a $145 million donation from executives involved in the uranium deal.

During his post-match interview, the Brazilian said "I like the way we played". I'm totally realistic and what I don't like is these false stories about me.

"The accusation [was] first made by Peter Schweizer, the senior editor at large of the website Breitbart, in his 2015 book, "Clinton Cash, ' " Smith continued". The report said members of the committee, including Clinton, should have known about the investigation and it questioned why they would have approved it.

'In exchange, Secretary of State [Hillary] Clinton approved the sale to the Russians, a quid-pro-quo.

Smith called the statement "inaccurate in a number of ways".

"Most of those donations were from one man, Frank Giustra, the founder of the company in Canada", said Smith.

Smith's take-down of the deal did not sit well with Fox's viewers.

"If the [attorney general] bends to pressure from President Trump and his allies, and appoints a special counsel to investigate Trump's vanquished rival, it could spell the end of the [Department of Justice] as an independent institution", Representative Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Relations Committee, said on Twitter.

During a private meeting with Trump in the Oval Office on November 1, Fox News host Jeanine Pirro insisted he should appoint a special counsel to investigate Hillary Clinton, according to The New York Times.
