Fox News host tore into Sessions in private meeting with Trump

Sessions looking into special counsel for Clinton issues: media reports

Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Tuesday pledged to act properly on a request by some members of Congress for a special counsel to investigate a Russian company's USA uranium purchase, but he stopped short of promising to appoint one.

Mr Sessions said he does not remember speaking to Carter Page during the 2016 presidential campaign about a trip that the former foreign policy campaign adviser took to Russian Federation.

The department also confirmed that it was considering a special counsel to investigate the foundation of former president Bill Clinton, and its ties to companies involved in a deal that sold USA uranium rights to a Russian state company. It's been reported that in addition to the Clinton Campaign and the Democratic National Committee paying FusionGPS for the dossier, the Federal Bureau of Investigation also "reimbursed" Christopher Steele, author of the dossier. On Monday, Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd responded to a request by House Judiciary Republicans for a new special counsel in a letter that said senior Justice Department prosecutors would evaluate the matter.

Moreover, it would overturn decades of political convention.

Jordan and Gaetz targeted Loretta Lynch, specifically her meeting with former President Bill Clinton on an airport tarmac-and subsequently emailing public relations staff at the Justice Department under the pseudonym "Elizabeth Carlisle". Suggesting that in "times of hysteria", political groups, "often from the best of motives, cry for the scalps of individuals or groups because they do not like their views", Jackson warned that, if federal prosecutors were not especially diligent to avoid the appearance of such biases, "law enforcement becomes personal, and the real crime becomes that of being unpopular with the predominant or governing group". "That would be wrong", Mr. Sessions told the committee when asked whether the president can use the criminal justice system for retaliatory purposes.

His advice to Camp Clinton? At some point, though, if you're Hillary Clinton, you won't be surprised if there's some investigation into you for something you're convinced you never did. "It wouldn't be the first time".

"My motivation is a love for that department and a love for the concept of blind justice that doesn't care whether it's an even-numbered year or an odd-numbered year", he said. "If this is what he thinks he needs to keep his base happy, then everyone else - including Republicans in Congress - should see it for what it is: a president wearing jackboots".

But one former Clinton official, her campaign press secretary Brian Fallon, said she should act now.

The lawmakers enumerated a long list of questionable activities by James Comey, Obama-era Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Special Counsel Robert Mueller, and others. "If people do not howl now, maybe Sessions will think he can open one and get away with it by convincing people he will not actually charge her".
