Didier Drogba announces the date of his retirement

The Chelsea legend - now at United Soccer League side Phoenix Rising - says he will hang up his boots at the end of the season.

The pinnacle of Drogba's Chelsea career was certainly winning the Champions League.

The former Ivory Coast worldwide is still plying his trade at the age of 39, having become the first player-owner in the history of the game when he took over Phoenix Rising FC in 2017.

When speaking to RMC Sport, Drogba revealed that next season will likely be his last.

A true power-playing centre-forward, he won four Premier League titles at Stamford Bridge, as well as four FA Cups, three League Cups and a memorable Uefa Champions League in 2012.

He left Chelsea in the summer of 2015 to move to America and spent two seasons with Montreal Impact in the MLS. "Playing is good, but at 39, it slows me down a bit".

Since the start 0f 2017, Drogba has been prolific for Phoenix, scoring 10 goals in 14 appearances so far and will look to end his career on a high with the Arizona-based club. A club record £24 million signing from Marseille in 2004, he went on to score a total of 164 goals for the Blues - 157 coming in his first stint, before he notched seven in his return to Stamford Bridge in 2014.
