Trump to dispatch team to work on Israel-Palestinian peace

White House senior adviser Jared Kushner speaks to reporters outside the White House in Washington

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday morning that the United States delegation due to arrive in Israel to attempt to restart peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, will be "welcome, as always".

"President Trump will soon send his representatives, Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblatt, for talks in the Middle East region including in Jerusalem, in an effort to advance the peace process", Netanyahu told his weekly cabinet meeting. Mr. Kushner, on his part, failed to fall within a longer 45-day window reserved for similar disclosures called periodic transaction reports, the report said. "Of course, we will welcome them as always".

The White House announced over the weekend that Kushner, Greenblatt and Dina Powell, the USA deputy national security advisor for strategy, will be traveling to the region in the coming days to meet with leaders of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Jordan, Egypt, Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA).

President Trump's senior advisor and son-in-law Jared Kushner has been fined by the government for failing to disclose recent financial transactions on time as required by federal law. "And we are waiting now for the American delegation to work together toward peace".

Arab media on Wednesday quoted several Palestinian officials, including chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat, as saying the current U.S. efforts are "redundant" because the Palestinians "have lost confidence in the Americans as objective mediators".

A total of at least 18 members of the Trump administration filed late financial disclosure statements with the ethics office this year, Mr. Kushner included, according to data collected by a Democratic opposition research firm, American Bridge 21st Century, and confirmed by McClatchy, the report said.

The official said that the USA will continue working closely with the parties to make progress towards that goal.

Speaking Sunday with the London-based Arabic-language newspaper A-Sharq al-Awsat, a Ramallah official said on condition of anonymity, "The fate of Netanyahu is not in his own hands, so entering talks with Israel will be an exhausting adventure".
