The Internet Speed in Every Country, Ranked

Research from consumer champion Which? has found people expecting to receive high-speed broadband from their provider were often left disappointed.

This is certainly not the only internet speed ranking, but it is fun to see how countries move up and down the charts.

Singapore topped the world with average download speed of 55.13Mbps, followed by Sweden and Taiwan who achieved 40.16Mbps and 34.4Mbps speeds respectively. The gap increases as the expected speeds get faster.

Taiwan has an average broadband speed of 34.4 megabits per second (Mbps), the third-fastest among 189 nations surveyed by Cable.co.uk, which released the results on Tuesday. "If they aren't they should contact their provider so that any issues with their service can be resolved".

With download speed of 5.46 megabytes per second, Vietnam's internet speed has been ranked 74th out of 189 countries and territories in a recent global survey of broadband speeds compiled by Cable.co.uk, a United Kingdom broadband, TV, phone and mobile provider. Click through on an individual country, and view both its average download and upload speed.

"These results offer us a fresh perspective on where we sit in the broadband world", Cable.co.uk consumer telecoms analyst Dan Howdle said. Users expecting internet speeds of between 10Mbps to 30Mbps received 89 per cent of what they expected. "Not least the importance of reaching those with the lowest speeds, predominantly in very rural and/or hard-to-reach areas, but also greater investment in hyperfast fibre to the home (FTTH) networks, which now reach only 2% of properties in the United Kingdom, compared to Sweden or Latvia, say, where FTTH exceeds 40%".
