Putin Derides 'Illegal' Sanctions Bill - But Says He's Waiting On Final Version

Russian Federation had warned on Friday that it meant to expel the diplomats and to seize two properties used by U.S. diplomats.

Russian Federation has retaliated against new USA sanctions by ordering 755 American diplomats to leave - a move that may well create a fresh crisis in the relationship between the two countries, the UK Independent reports.

Maria Olson, a U.S. Embassy spokeswoman in Moscow, and the Russian Foreign Ministry declined to comment.

At the end of 2016, President Obama cited usa findings that Russian Federation had meddled with the recent presidential election when he expelled members of Russia's diplomatic corps and issued sanctions on Russia's mining and oil industry. President Trump was initially opposed to the sanctions, but the White House says he is preparing to sign them into law. Russian Federation said it reserved the right to take further measures if the US retaliates. "We are not doing anything to the detriment of the domestic developments or internal affairs of any country, the U.S. included".

He raised eyebrows from his first days on the campaign trail by expressing a desire to improve the U.S. - Russian Federation relationship.

The U.S. bill, which also imposes new sanctions on Iran and North Korea, had been delayed while lawmakers resolved procedural issues and revised language that energy companies said would prevent many overseas deals. "We will mirror this". The legislation specifies that President Trump can't ease the sanctions without congressional approval. "And, of course, we are prepared to continue the dialogue with Finland and all other countries concerned over ways of enhancing stability in the region", Putin said.

The deputy foreign minister did not specify what Russia's plans for retaliation are, but said that the country has "a very rich toolbox at our disposal".

"It would be ridiculous on my part to start speculating on what may or may not happen", he said.

"We haven't seen the final version yet, so we haven't got any kind of definitive view on it, but we can see that over a lengthy period they are trying to provoke us more and more", he said.

He added, "I can assure you that different options are on the table, and consideration is being given to all sorts of things".

The move by Russian Federation takes place against ongoing controversy in the U.S. about Mr Trump's relationship with Moscow and possible collusion between his campaign and Russian Federation over its alleged effort to interfere in the presidential election.

Special counsel Robert Mueller, the former director of the FBI, is investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential race and whether or not Mr Trump's campaign may have colluded with Russia - an allegation that Mr Trump and his associates have staunchly denied.

Raddatz reminded the Kremlin official of his saying in November that Russian Federation had contacts with the Trump campaign during the election.
