Germany: Skyway mishap strands up to 100 cable vehicle riders

Transport and fire department officials as saying that as many as 100 passengers were left stranded

The gondola, which carries people across the River Rhine in Cologne, was stopped on Sunday after a auto hit a pillar.

The incident happened after one of the cars came into contact with one of the supporting pillars.

According to senior meteorologist Jon Erdman, occasional gusts of 25 to 30 miles per hour were reported at Cologne Bonn Airport today, which may have contributed, if not to the mishap itself, then perhaps to the nerves of those stranded in the cable cars.
