Collins recounts 'heartwarming' welcome in ME after healthcare 'no' vote

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said Sunday morning she's "troubled" by President Donald Trump's threat to eliminate health insurance subsidies included in the embattled Affordable Care Act. Collins' call for ACA reform goes against Senate Republicans' strategy of reforming health care through a reconciliation bill that requires only 51 votes - instead of 60 - in order to pass.

"There are some very real problems in the law", Collins said, adding, "the problem is that Congress ... does not do comprehensive well".

'It was just wonderful, ' she added.

"I've never had that happen in the 20 years that I've been privileged to serve in the Senate", she said.

"It was very encouraging and affirming, especially after arriving home after a very hard time", Collins added.

Collins also remarked on her warm reception when she arrived back home in ME after the nail-biter Senate vote early Friday morning that scuttled Republicans' latest attempt to repeal Obamacare. "She needs to hear from her constituents".

Since 2010, July 29 is observed as Global Tiger or International Tiger Day in order to raise awareness about tiger conservation. But officials working in Corbett National Park - India's oldest tiger reserve - are yet to even start work on this instruction.

Collins said she voted against the bills because they withheld federal funding from Planned Parenthood, and because she didn't think the Republican plans would provide adequate coverage.

Throwing out the law that's become known as Obamacare has been a top goal of Republicans since it was passed by a Democrat-controlled Congress in 2010.

In a Twitter message on Saturday, Trump said, "if a new HealthCare Bill is not approved quickly, BAILOUTS for Insurance Companies and BAILOUTS for Members of Congress will end very soon!"

"I believe we would produce far better legislation if we went through the normal process of having committee hearings, hearing from health care providers, from insurance regulators, from advocacy groups, from governors, from everyone involved", Collins told Todd.

Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway said on Fox News Sunday that the president will decide this week whether to unilaterally kill off cost-sharing reduction payments, which assist low income Americans to afford out-of-pockets costs for medical care.

'And I certainly hope the administration does not do anything in the meantime to hasten that collapse, ' she added.
