Minneapolis police chief resigns after shooting; replacement nominated
The police chief in the United States city of Minneapolis has resigned at the request of the city's mayor following the fatal police shooting of an unarmed Australian woman last weekend.
"Messy Betsy", "You are next" and "Power people", they hollered after Ms Hodges spoke about her "lost confidence" in the police chief.
"For us to continue to transform policing and community trust in policing - we need new leadership at MPG".
The mayor announced the nomination of Assistant Police Chief Medaria Arradondo as Harteau's replacement.
"It is about the members of the communities that we serve and the police officers who protect our residents", she continued, before adding that the shooting death of Justine Damond did "not reflect the training and procedures we've developed as a Department".
Damond, 40, a spiritual healer from Australia, was shot by Noor after police responded at 11.30pm to a 911 call she made about a possible sexual assault in the alley behind her southwest Minneapolis home.

Israel will not remove metal detectors at Al-Aqsa mosque
But Israel's defence minister Avigdor Lieberman said it can live without security cooperation with the Palestinians. A neighbour, an off-duty soldier, heard the screams, rushed to the home and opened fire, wounding the attacker.
"I think Justine is the last person you'd expect to be killed by police", Bennett said.
"An officer should have them on and that is what we are trying to identify", Chief Harteau said.
Earlier Friday night, Harteau had announced that she is resigning in the wake of the deadly shooting last weekend. Authorities say Officer Mohamed Noor fatally shot her as she approached his squad auto. She expressed concern about the cultural changes needed to create a difference in police violence, anxious someone from within the police department may not be up to the task. Noor shot his gun past his partner in the driver's seat and through the open window, killing Damond.
Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman has said he will decide whether to charge the police officer.
While some cities require their officers to activate body cameras when they are on any call, Minneapolis doesn't. That lawyer, Bob Bennett, recently negotiated a almost $3 million settlement over the death of Philando Castile, the motorist shot and killed by a St. Anthony police officer previous year.
Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges thanked Harteau for her service, noting her 30 years of experience and ability to become a top law-enforcement official "in a male-dominated profession".
"I would prefer Officer Noor would speak, whether it be to our internal process or the BCA", Harteau said. "It is not about race or ethnicity", Harteau said, contradicting claims from Rep. Michele Bachmann, who asserted Noor was an "affirmative-action hire".
